Mission Statement:
The Diabetes Coalition of Massachusetts (DCOM) is a statewide alliance designed to be a catalyst and
advocate for diabetes education, prevention, diagnosis, and management in all populations in the
Commonwealth.

Who we are:
The Coalition is comprised of representatives from diverse disciplines, including health care providers,
non-profit and government agencies, community organizations, and businesses. The Coalition was
established in 2005 as a result of a statewide assessment conducted by the Massachusetts
Department of Public Health.

DCOM is lead by a diverse group of representatives that comprise our
Executive Committee.

What we do:
DCOM is organized into three standing committees which work to achieve our three main goals:

  1. To mobilize and partner with communities to prevent and manage diabetes
  2. To increase and improve the access and quality of care available to individuals at risk for
    diabetes and those with diabetes
  3. To assess existing systems and develop new ones to track the prevalence of all types of
    diabetes and associated complications.

What we offer:
DCOM seeks to be the source of information for professionals regarding available resources to combat
diabetes and enhance prevention efforts.  We share information through multiple vehicles: two annual
statewide meetings, one in the Spring and another in the Fall; DCOM's Programs of Excellence Awards
and our Website. Here is what one attendee had to say about our Spring 08 statewide meeting:

"The meeting was wonderful, very well organized and attended. It is a great opportunity for us to see
the wonderful work that is going on and to learn from other people."
